If They Had Instagram: What Classic Hollywood Pet Content Would Have Broken the Internet
It is, objectively, one of the great tragedies of the internet age: all the incredible celebrity pet content that was simply never captured for posterity. Or rather — captured on film, stored in archives, and never given the viral moment it deserved.
We have corrected this injustice, at least in spirit. Behold: if classic Hollywood had Instagram.

Marilyn Monroe (@marilynmonroe): "Sunday mood. Hugo says no to everything today and honestly? Mood. 🐾" [Photo: Monroe in white dress, Basset Hound across her lap, both looking mildly annoyed with the world.] 47 million likes.

Audrey Hepburn (@audreyhepburn): "Just a girl and her deer. New York, 8am. IP had opinions about the crosswalk. #CityLife #DeerMom" [Photo: Hepburn walking IP the deer past bewildered commuters in a trench coat.] 93 million likes. 400,000 comments, mostly variations of "WHAT."

James Dean (@jamesdean): [No caption. Black-and-white photo of Dean lying on diner floor with enormous dog on his chest, both asleep.] 210 million likes. The most liked post in Instagram history.

Cary Grant (@carygrant): "My co-star for this afternoon. He has better comedic timing than most actors I've worked with. 🎬 " [Photo: Immaculate suit, tiny Terrier on his lap, both looking at camera with identical dignified expressions.] 55 million likes.
At Hollywoof Classics, we do the deeply important work of imagining these posts and exploring the real stories behind the vintage photos. History with better captions.
